WORKPIECE GEOMETRIC SETUP AND SPEED CONTROL ARE TWO COMMON APPROACHES TO LOBING CONTROL IN CENTERLESS GRINDING. THEY ARE CURRENTLY USED INDEPENDENTLY IN GRINDING. THIS PAPER ESTABLISHES THE INTRINSIC RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE WORKPIECE GEOMETRIC SETUP AND THE SPEED RATIO ADJUSTMENT AND PROPOSES A NEW LOBING CONTROL METHOD TO MINIMIZE THE WORKPIECE ROUNDNESS ERROR. EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT GRINDING CENTER SHOW THAT THE PROPOSED LOBING CONTROL METHOD IS EFFECTIVE IN LOBING SUPPRESSION.
